The Dough: Your Pizza's Foundation

This recipe yields enough dough for two 12-inch pizzas, but hey-you could easily go big with one!

  • Ingredients:
    • 1 cup warm water (around 105-115°F)
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
    • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
    • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • Instructions:

    1. In large bowl, combine warm water, sugar and yeast. Let sit 5-10 minutes, until foamy. If it doesn't foam, your yeast might be dead.oops! Try a new packet.
      1. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms, using your hands-get a little messy!
      2. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if it's too sticky.
      3. Add in olive oil and knead another minute.
      4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
      5. Punch down the dough to release the air-it's therapeutic, I swear!.
