Ingredients You'll Need Probably Already Have

This recipe is super simple. As in, super duper simple. You most likely have most of these things in your pantry. If not, a quick trip to the grocery store won't hurt your wallet one bit. I'm not into all that fancy-schmancy, hard to find ingredients. Nah, I keep it real, keep it simple. So here's what you'll need:

  • 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries (about 3 cups) 1 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup orange juice freshly squeezed is best!, but from a carton will work in a pinch 1/4 cup orange zest from about 1 large orange 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon Pinch of salt See? Told ya it was easy! Don't be intimidated by fancy recipes. This is about good, honest food. And cranberries.

Making the Sauce: Step by Step

Great, let's cook! This is easy, even I can do it. And that says much about it because I am definitely not a good cook, lol! How to make the creamiest, most delicious cranberry sauce you've ever tasted:

  1. Combine: In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, orange juice, orange zest, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Simmer: Place over medium-high heat, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cranberries burst and the sauce has thickened slightly. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking-you don't want a burnt bottom. That's a sad cranberry sauce.
  3. Cool: Transfer to low heat and let the sauce cool completely before serving so as to combine flavors and improve the taste.
  4. Serve: Now comes the best part. Taste! Seriously, taste it while its still warm. Does it need more sweetness? Go ahead, add some more sugar. More zest? Add more orange zest. It's your cranberry sauce. Do you. This is where you get creative. Maybe add a splash of Grand Marnier? Go wild, my friends.

Tip: You can make it even smoother, after it cools a bit, using an immersion blender to puree it. Alternatively, you can just use a fork and mash it a bit. It is totally up to you. How do you like it?
