the best smoothie recipes for a cold winter day

The snowstorm snowed us in and much needed to be warm, comforting; forget shoveling snow-what I wanted was a hug in a mug-or rather, a blender. This is the time when I decided that I would try to make my go-to winter smoothie recipe a little bit perfect. Thus, it has become a little ritual, cozy, momentary self-care amidst all the chaos. This is not just a smoothie, but like a warm hug in a glass for cold evenings.

The Cozy Winter Warrior Smoothie

This smoothie is not about mere taste; it's the creation of a moment-a warm, peaceful moment. It's full of nutrients for fighting that winter cold, giving you just that extra oomph to get out there and conquer that snow outside. Seriously-your lifesaver!

Ingredients:

  • 1 frozen banana (the riper, the better!)
  • 1 cup frozen berries, mixed berries are my favorite, but use what you have!
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats for that extra warmth and fiber
  • 1/2 cup almond milk or any milk of your choice; I have even used oat milk in a pinch!
  • 1 tbsp nut butter, peanut, almond, or even cashew-get creative!
  • 1 tsp chia seeds-for a boost of Omega-3s, but it adds a nice little crunch.
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon: because it's like a warm hug for your taste buds
  • A pinch of ginger: (optional, but a nice added zing!)

Making the Magic Happen

This is seriously the easiest recipe ever. Just throw everything into a blender. I usually use my trusty Blendtec; it is a beast! If not a high-powered blender, you can add a little more liquid. You do not want chunky bits in here. Blend until creamy. It might take you a few seconds to achieve it perfectly blended. Add more almond milk if it becomes too thick. Too thin? A couple more frozen berries thickens it up. Just gets better with tries!

Pro Tip: This recipe is ultra-creamy in texture, you see; to further enhance the texture to just perfect, let this rest for a few minutes just after blending. All of these let the flavors really come together and make an excellent, highly enjoyable sipper.

Serving Suggestions

For an extra special treat, top your smoothie with a sprinkle of granola, a drizzle of honey, or even a dollop of whipped cream (don’t judge me!). I’ve been known to add a few chopped nuts for a bit of extra crunch. Really, it’s all about making this smoothie your own. It’s your masterpiece, ok? Get creative! Experiment with fruits, spices, and sweeteners to get your perfect blend. What's your go-to addition to your smoothie this winter?
