Gather Supplies

You will want to first gather your ingredients. Don't worry about the list-most of this you probably have in your pantry!

  • Eggs: Of course, you are going to need at least four eggs for this.
  • English Muffins: Employ fine-quality English muffins, for they form the base of our dish. I always prefer to toast them slight so that they get crisp.
  • Ham or Bacon: I use crispy bacon, but you can always use Canadian bacon or smoked ham.
  • Hollandaise Sauce: This is the star of the show, and it can be store-bought or homemade.
  • Butter: For poaching the eggs and making the Hollandaise, a pretty generous amount would be needed.
  • Lemon Juice: A little squeeze of lemon juice helps in brightening the flavors within the Hollandaise.
  • Salt and Pepper: A pinch of flavor gives life to a good meal!

Finally, with all these ingredients, let us get started with cooking!

Poaching Eggs

Poaching eggs can be a bit daunting. Truth is, it's pretty darn simple. It does, however take a little patience and grace.

How to Do It:

  1. Fill a sauce pan with about 2 inches of water and bring to a simmer.

  2. Crack an egg into a small bowl.
  3. Gently drop the egg into the simmering water. If you like, use a spoon to create a little whirlpool in the water ahead of dropping it in, in order to help keep the whites together.
  4. Poach for 3-4 minutes, or until the whites are set and the yolk is still runny.
  5. Use a slotted spoon to carefully take the poached egg out of the water and drain it on paper towels.

Trick: Add white vinegar to the boiling water in a tablespoon amount to help hold the egg whites in place.

Go on and do the rest of your eggs that way.

Assembling the Benedict

With the eggs poached, we can now assemble our delightful Eggs Benedict! Here's how:

  1. Toast the English Muffins: You may have already done this by now, but let the toaster get your English muffin golden brown.
  2. Add the Ham: Place the ham or bacon on top of the toasted English muffin.
  3. Top with the Eggs: Gently set your poached eggs atop the ham or bacon. 4. Pour on the Hollandaise Sauce: Drizzle the hollandaise sauce over the poached eggs-so that the yolks are covered.

There you have it! You just created your very own Eggs Benedict masterpiece.
