Hey there, fellow cocktail enthusiasts! I'm so excited to share this seriously delicious recipe. It all started during a recent get-together when one of my friends, let's call him 'Dave', surprised everyone with this amazing, smoky kombucha Old Fashioned. Seriously, I've never tasted anything quite like it. The unexpected depth of flavor was amazing!

The blend of the tart kombucha, the smooth rye, and that subtle smokiness from the sugar was a revelation. So, I decided to recreate it for you and maybe some adjustments along the way. This recipe is all about experimenting with the smoky notes and tweaking the sweetness to your liking. The great thing about cocktails is you get to create your perfect experience.

📖 Instructions

  1. Start by smoking your sugar. If using a smoker, place the sugar in a small heatproof bowl and place it in the smoker for 15-20 minutes with your favorite wood chips (applewood works well). If using a smoking gun, smoke the sugar for about 2-3 minutes, until lightly fragrant. Set aside.
  2. Next, prepare your kombucha. I like using a slightly sweet, tart kombucha. Strain out any pulp if needed. This will enhance the overall drinking experience.
  3. Muddle a few raspberries (or another berry of your choice). This adds a nice layer of fruity complexity. It will definitely elevate your drink.
  4. In a cocktail shaker, combine the muddled berries, smoked sugar (about 1 teaspoon), rye whiskey (2 ounces), kombucha (1 ounce), and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.
  5. Add a large ice cube or several smaller cubes to the cocktail shaker. Close the lid securely and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well-chilled.
  6. Strain the mixture into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.
  7. Garnish with an orange peel (expressed and then dropped in) and a single, smoked raspberry, if you have some left.
  8. Sip and savor the unique blend of flavors! Ah, perfection!

📝 Notes
