Cravings of my pregnancy and how this idea was born.
Let's get real: pregnancy cravings are no joke. I remember that desperate, intense need for something sweet yet healthy-ish during my baby shower. All the sugary treats were calling my name, but the guilt? Oof. That was heavy. So, on a mission, I went: low-calorie, delicious baby shower treats that wouldn't leave me feeling like I'd ingested a small car.
This blog post is the result-a culmination of late-night baking experiments, some of which were disasters, recipe tweaking, and a whole lot of tasting. I'm sharing all that I learned, because I know I am not the only one struggling to balance healthy eating with celebration.

It's Not About Deprivation, It's About Smart Swaps
The secret to low-calorie baby shower treats isn't about deprivation; it's about finding smart swaps. Instead of thinking, "I can't have cake," think, "What can I make that tastes like cake, but is lighter?" This subtle shift made all the difference for me.
For example, instead of using tons of butter and sugar, I played around with Greek yogurt-adds protein!-applesauce, and mashed bananas. These make for great moistness and sweetness without the extra calories. Even found some alternatives to sugar like stevia that actually work quite well.

Presentation Makes it Festive
Even healthy desserts can be beautiful! Think about the presentation of your food. Use pretty serving dishes, add some fresh flowers and create an overall visually appealing spread. This helps make your treats feel extra special. Who needs all those extra calories when you have a stunning dessert display?
I used little cupcake liners for the fruit tarts and made the parfaits in pretty glasses. It just seemed to make a big difference in turning simple desserts into elegant treats.

Beyond the Treats: A Holistic Approach to a Healthy Celebration
Keep in mind that a baby shower is about celebrating the mom-to-be, not just the food. The most important thing is to create a warm and loving atmosphere-that's what really makes the day special. Offer other healthy options, like sparkling water with fruit slices or herbal tea. Don't stress over being perfect. This is a celebration!

Let's raise our glasses - of sparkling water, of course - to happiness, health, and celebration!
