I created this recipe after a disastrous attempt at making a traditional Philly cheesesteak. It was…let’s just say, a learning experience. But that failure led to this incredible success! This casserole captures all the essence of a Philly cheesesteak but simplifies the process tremendously. It’s incredibly easy to make, requires minimal cleanup, and, most importantly, it tastes absolutely amazing! Trust me; this is going to be a new family favorite.

📖 Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grab your 9x13 inch baking dish and set it aside. This is gonna be good!
  2. In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add 1 pound of thinly sliced steak (ribeye or sirloin are delicious!). Cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned and cooked to your liking. Season generously with salt and pepper. Don't overcook it though, we want some juicy bits!
  3. Once the steak is cooked, remove it from the skillet and set it aside. In the same skillet, melt 1/2 cup of butter over medium heat. Add 1/2 cup of chopped onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. This step adds such a nice flavor to the whole thing.
  4. Stir in 1/2 cup of sliced green bell peppers to the onions and cook for another 3-4 minutes, until slightly tender. Yumm!
  5. In a large bowl, combine the cooked steak, onions, and peppers. Add 2 cups of shredded provolone cheese (or your favorite cheese blend!), 1/2 cup of beef broth, 1/4 cup of Worcestershire sauce, and a pinch of garlic powder. Mix everything until well combined. It's starting to look delicious already!
  6. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Top with the remaining 1 cup of shredded provolone cheese. This is my favorite part—that glorious cheese topping.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown. The aroma alone is enough to make you drool!
  8. Let the casserole sit for 5-10 minutes before serving. This allows the cheese to set a little and makes it easier to cut. Serve it hot and enjoy your amazing Philly Cheesesteak Casserole!

📝 Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of dried thyme or oregano.
  • If you want a spicier kick, add some red pepper flakes!
