This recipe is my go-to comfort drink on a chilly evening, It's rich, decadent, and so easy to make. I developed this recipe after a particularly stressful week at work; it is a personal favorite! It has a delightful balance of sweet and nutty flavors with a satisfying crunch from the pecans. The candied pecans add a touch of elegance and sweetness.

One of my friends, Sarah, told me about her love for candied pecans and how much it adds to her winter drink. I tweaked her idea a bit and came up with this. I think she would appreciate this version.

📖 Instructions

  1. First things first, gather your ingredients. Make sure everything is at room temperature, except for the chocolate chips, which will melt more evenly. You know, if you're particular like me!
  2. In your medium saucepan, combine the milk (or water, if you're going the purist route), and maple syrup. Stir gently with your whisk. If you’re using water, get your tastebuds ready, as this won't be as sweet.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium-low heat. Heat until the mixture is warm, but not boiling. Boiling will scorch the milk and give it an unpleasant taste–Trust me, I’ve been there!
  4. Remove from heat. Now add your chocolate chips. Stir continuously until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth. This part is super satisfying, isn't it? It’s like watching magic happen!
  5. Once it’s smooth, pour the chocolate mixture into your favorite mug or bowl. Mine’s this lovely old ceramic mug my grandma gave me. It always makes the chocolate taste better, maybe it’s just me?
  6. Gently top with maple pecans and candied pecans. You can sprinkle some extra cinnamon on top if you're feeling fancy. Get creative and enjoy your creation!
  7. If you want to get really fancy, you could garnish with a dollop of whipped cream, and a sprinkle of sea salt. I always feel a little extra fancy when I add a pinch of sea salt, do you?
