Okay, real talk. I've always been a sucker for anything floral-flavored. Rose, lavender, you name it! Some people think it's like eating potpourri, but I disagree (unless you are eating potpourri, in which case, maybe stop?). But, if I'm being honest, its a taste of something else you know. It's about creating an experience, a memory, a moment of pure bliss. And that's exactly what these Rose Brownies are all about.

These aren't your average brownies, folks. We're talking deep, dark chocolate, a fudgy center that melts in your mouth, and that subtle, intoxicating hint of rose. The edible rose petals on top not only look gorgeous but also add a delightful textural contrast. Ever had a brownie that made you feel like you were walking through a rose garden? Now you will. Making these brownies has become my go-to when I want to impress, treat myself, or, lets be real, need a chocolate therapy session. It always works, and I think it will for you, too! Just try not to eat the entire batch in one sitting like I sometimes do!

🍽 Ingredients

📖 Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Greese and flour an 8x8 inch baking pan. (Trust me, you dont want these stickin').
  2. In a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water (or in the microwave in 20-second intervals), melt 6 ounces of high-quality bittersweet chocolate and 1/2 cup (1 stick) of unsalted butter. Stir until smooth.
  3. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Nobody wants scrambled eggs in their brownies!
  4. In a seperate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of granulated sugar and 2 large eggs until light and creamy. This is where you get your arm workout for the day!
  5. Gradually whisk the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture until well combined. Make sure its all incorporated! No chocolate puddles allowed.
  6. Stir in 1 teaspoon of rosewater. Be careful not to overdo it! Rosewater can be potent. We're going for a hint of romance, not a perfume factory explosion.
  7. In another bowl, whisk together 3/4 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Make sure there are no lumps!
  8. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Overmixing will result in tough brownies, and we're aiming for fudgy goodness.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. The batter will be thick, but thats okay!
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached. Dont overbake!
  11. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting. This is the hardest part, I know. But patience is a virtue!
  12. Once cooled, cut into squares and garnish with edible rose petals. If you're feeling fancy, you can also dust them with powdered sugar. And of course, the best part is that the brownies are now ready to eat!

📝 Notes

  • For a more intense rose flavor, use rose extract instead of rosewater. Start with 1/2 teaspoon and adjust to taste.
  • Feel free to add chopped nuts or chocolate chips to the batter for extra texture and flavor.
  • Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

A brownie without a rose is just... well, a regular brownie. Where's the romance in that?
