I developed this recipe after a friend told me how much she struggled to eat nutritious breakfasts while traveling for work. That’s when the idea of overnight oats came to me. They are super easy to make, transport, and store – making them perfect for busy schedules, or for those of us just trying to make a quick meal in the morning without thinking too much about it.

📖 Instructions

  1. Grab your favorite mason jar or airtight container. Make sure it’s clean, of course! Nobody wants gritty surprises in their breakfast.
  2. Start by adding 1/2 cup of rolled oats to your jar. Rolled oats are best for overnight oats because they soften nicely overnight. Don't use instant oats unless you like your breakfast REALLY mushy.
  3. Next, add your choice of milk. I use about 1 cup of milk, usually 2%, but any milk will work – even plant-based milk. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Now for the star of the show: the berries! Add about 1/2 cup of your mixed berries. Feel free to use whatever kind you like – strawberries, blueberries, raspberries. Mix them in, and make sure they're evenly distributed. Don’t be afraid to get a bit creative here!
  5. If you like a little extra something, a teaspoon of chia seeds adds some nice texture and a bit of extra nutrition. I usually sprinkle them on top.
  6. Give the mixture a final stir, making sure everything is well combined. That way you have no clumps of dry oats when you go to eat them.
  7. Seal the jar tightly. Pop it in the fridge and let it sit overnight – or for at least 4 hours, if you don't want to wait that long. (But seriously, the overnight soak creates the best texture!)
  8. In the morning, give it a gentle stir before enjoying. Seriously, that’s it! Add a dollop of yogurt, some more berries or a drizzle of honey if you want to go all out. You deserve it!

📝 Notes

  • Adjust the amount of milk to achieve your desired consistency.
  • Feel free to substitute other fruits or add toppings like nuts, seeds, or sweeteners to your liking.
  • For extra flavor and creaminess, try using Greek yogurt or coconut cream instead of milk. It’s yummy!
  • This recipe is super adaptable. Customize it to your preferences! Enjoy!
