This Garlic Herb Bagel Bread Pudding is absolutely incredible. It's my default recipe for brunch, a comforting dessert, or even a different appetizer! It's ridiculously simple to prepare, but is fancy enough to wow even your most finicky guests (or just your roommate). My friend Sarah, a professional baker herself, even mentioned that it made her think of a high-end restaurant's bread pudding. but a hundred times easier and cheaper to prepare at home!

What I love about this recipe is blending the intense garlicky flavors and spicy scents with the rich sweetness of the bagels. It's just such a wonderful combination of flavors and textures. The garlic gives such a rich depth, and then the herbs step in and give that wonderful aromatic flavor. It's a party in your mouth.and everybody's invited!

📖 Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This is crucial – don't skip this step, unless you want a sad, undercooked pudding.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, melted butter, garlic powder, dried herbs, salt, and pepper. Make sure everything is well combined. (I use a whisk; It's a great workout for the wrists, too!)
  3. Cut the bagels into 1-inch cubes. Try to make them relatively uniform in size for even cooking. I often find this step relaxing; it's like a mini-meditation.
  4. Gently toss the bagel cubes with the egg mixture, ensuring each piece is coated. Don't be shy – make sure they get a good soak!
  5. Pour the bagel mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. I use a non-stick baking dish so it cleans up easier.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the pudding is golden brown and set. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean. (If not, bake for a few more minutes)
  7. Let the bread pudding cool slightly before serving. A warm slice is heavenly, but it also tastes amazing at room temperature. (It's versatile, just like you!)
  8. Garnish with fresh herbs before serving, if desired. I like to add a sprinkle of parsley; it looks pretty and adds a touch of freshness. This step is optional, tho...

📝 Notes

  • For extra flavor, you could add a pinch of nutmeg or some grated Parmesan cheese. Don't be afraid to get creative!
  • If your bagels are very dry, you might need to add a little extra milk or cream to the mixture. The goal is a nice, moist pudding!
