This recipe is my take on a classic breakfast treat—but with a fun twist. My friend, Sarah, introduced me to this delightful combination a few years back, and it's become a favorite of my family. It’s the perfect blend of sweet and savory, with a textural contrast that's simply irresistible.

📖 Instructions

  1. First things first, gather your ingredients! Make sure you've got your bread, peanut butter, jelly, eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla extract ready to go. Don't forget the butter for the pan!
  2. Next, in a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Make sure it's nice and smooth - you want a consistent coating for your french toast!
  3. Now for the peanut butter and jelly prep. You can either spread it directly onto the bread slices now, or you can do that after the French toast is cooked - whichever you prefer! I personally prefer it pre-spread.
  4. Heat your large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add a pat of butter, and let it melt completely and coat the surface. You want a nice, even layer to avoid sticking.
  5. Carefully dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, making sure both sides are fully coated. Let any excess drip off.
  6. Place the bread slices onto the hot griddle, and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Flip gently with a spatula. You will know it's ready when it's beautifully golden-brown.
  7. Once they are cooked, carefully remove the French toast from the griddle and place it on a serving plate. If you decided to wait, you can now spread some more peanut butter and jelly on top of each slice.
  8. And that's it! Your yummy peanut butter and jelly French toast is ready. Serve immediately and enjoy your masterpiece!

📝 Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or allspice to the egg mixture.
  • If you like a crispier French toast, cook for a little longer on each side.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of peanut butter and jelly to your liking.
  • Make sure your bread is not too soggy when dipped in the egg mixture; if it's too soggy, blot the slices with a clean kitchen towel before placing them in the skillet or griddle.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture and taste
