Picture this: a warm evening, the sun setting, casting a golden hue over everything. You're relaxing on the porch (or maybe just dreaming you are, like me right now at my kitchen table!), and what could possibly make the moment even better? Ah, yes—a Grapefruit Moscow Mule. This isn't your grandma's cocktail (unless your grandma is super hip, which, hey, maybe she is!). It's a zesty, vibrant twist on the beloved classic, and trust me, it's about to become your new favorite.

Now, I know what you might be thinking: "Another Moscow Mule variation?" But hear me out. The grapefruit adds this beautiful, slightly bitter edge that cuts through the sweetness of the ginger beer and the sharpness of the lime. It's like a symphony in your mouth, a dance of citrus and spice. I mean, who doesn't want a little party in their mouth after a long day?

I remember the first time I tried a Grapefruit Moscow Mule. I was at this cute little bar in Brooklyn, trying to impress a date (who, sadly, wasn't as impressed as I hoped he'd be by my cocktail choices – his loss!). But that drink? Oh man. It was love at first sip. So, I did what any self-respecting cocktail enthusiast would do: I went home and tried to recreate it. After a few... let's call them 'experimental' attempts, I finally nailed it. And now, I'm sharing my perfected version with you. You're welcome!

📖 Instructions

  1. Grab your trusty copper mug (it really does make a difference, I swear!). If you don't have one, a highball glass will do in a pinch, but you're missing out on the chill factor.
  2. Fill the mug or glass generously with ice. The colder, the better!
  3. Pour in 2 ounces (60ml) of your favorite vodka. I'm partial to Tito's, but use whatever you have on hand. Don't overthink it too much.
  4. Add 3 ounces (90ml) of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice. And I mean *freshly* squeezed. The bottled stuff just doesn't compare. Plus, squeezing your own is kinda fun. If you are using store-bought, then it's okay, but go for a high-quality option
  5. Squeeze in about ½ ounce (15ml) of fresh lime juice. Again, fresh is best! Taste as you go to adjust for desired tartness.
  6. Top it off with 4-6 ounces (120-180ml) of ginger beer. Not ginger ale, GINGER BEER. There's a difference, trust me. The spicier, the better!
  7. Give it a gentle stir with a bar spoon or a long spoon to combine all the ingredients.
  8. Garnish with a grapefruit slice and a sprig of mint. Because we're fancy like that!
  9. Take a sip, close your eyes, and imagine you're on that porch, watching the sunset. Ahhhhhh. Don't forget to Instagram it!

📝 Notes

  • Adjust the amount of ginger beer to your liking.
  • For a sweeter mule, add a splash of simple syrup. Consider using flavored vodka for a different spin.
