This zesty citrus dip is a burst of sunshine on a plate! It's incredibly easy to make, yet it packs a powerful flavor punch that will impress your friends and family. I developed this recipe after a particularly stressful week – a delicious way to unwind. I'd been wanting to create something fresh and vibrant, something to lighten my mood. And this was it!
A bowl of zesty citrus dip being served with assorted fresh vegetables and crackers.
The combination of bright citrus flavors – oranges, lemons, and limes – with a hint of sweet honey and fresh herbs creates a symphony of tastes that is both refreshing and satisfying. The creamy Greek yogurt (or dairy-free alternative) provides the perfect base for the citrus, tying the whole thing together. Trust me; this is going to be a hit. If not, I'll personally come to your house and fix it.

📖 Instructions

  1. First, zest the citrus fruits. Using a microplane or fine grater, zest the oranges, lemons, and limes, being careful to only get the colorful outer layer and avoid the bitter white pith. Set the zest aside. You should get around 2 tablespoons of zest total, or a bit more, if you are really enthusiastic (I always am!).
  2. Next, juice the citrus fruits. Juice the oranges, lemons, and limes using a citrus juicer or by hand. Aim for about 1/2 cup of fresh juice. It will definitely be worth squeezing those lemons – trust me!
  3. In a small mixing bowl, combine the citrus zest and juice. Give it a little whisk to combine and make sure the flavors are friends.
  4. In a separate large bowl, add the plain Greek yogurt or dairy-free alternative. Now, gently fold in the citrus zest and juice mixture, making sure not to overmix or create ripples.
  5. Stir in the honey. Add 2 tablespoons of honey and mix everything together thoroughly – but lightly! You're looking for a smooth, consistent texture. Don't over mix and don't worry if there are little bits of zest hanging out – that is perfect!
  6. Finally, add the fresh herbs. Gently stir in the chopped fresh herbs (about 1 tablespoon of each). I like to use a mix, but dill and mint are always good choices.
  7. Taste and adjust. Give your creation a taste test and adjust the honey and herbs to your liking. This is where you get to shine – adjust the flavors to make it truly yours. If you want, add a dash of salt!
  8. Chill and serve. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and deepen. Then, serve your zesty citrus dip with your favorite crackers, pita chips, vegetables, or even grilled chicken.
  9. Optional additions: Feel free to add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little kick or some grated ginger for an extra zing. I sometimes add a pinch of salt to draw out the flavors...experiment and find out what works for you!

📝 Notes

  • Adjust the amount of honey to your liking. If you have time, let the dip sit for a few hours before serving. This allows the flavors to really blend together, and everything gets even more delicious.
  • Make sure to use fresh citrus fruits. This makes all the difference in taste and quality!
