I first discovered this magical concoction during a yoga retreat in the mountains. One of my friends, a total wellness guru, swore by it for boosting immunity and energy. I have to agree! Not only is it invigorating, it's also a fun way to experiment with flavor profiles. It's my go-to whenever I feel a little under the weather (or even not!).

📖 Instructions

  1. First, let's prep our ingredients. Wash and peel a 1-inch knob of fresh ginger. Seriously, take your time; it's not worth rushing. I once sliced my finger peeling ginger – a truly unappetizing kitchen mishap. Grate it finely, using a microplane or a box grater (microplane is preferable—trust me). We’ll get around 1 tablespoon.
  2. Next, wash and thinly slice one large lemon. I like Meyer lemons, they're a little less acidic than regular lemons. If you use regular lemons, maybe add a touch more honey. Now you need 1/2 cup of lemon juice. You can squeeze it yourself or use store-bought.
  3. If you're feeling fancy-pants, add a teaspoon of freshly grated turmeric. If not, don't worry; the flavor is subtle anyhow, and we are all about keepin' it real! If you are using the fancy stuff, Make sure it's good quality!
  4. Now for the fun part, the mixing! Combine the grated ginger, lemon juice and turmeric in your large pitcher. Add 4 cups of cold water – filtered water is always best, if you ask me. Stir gently but thoroughly to combine. Then, and this is crucial, taste the concoction. If you like a sweeter lemonade, add honey or maple syrup to your liking. Start with two tablespoons and adjust accordingly.
  5. Strain the lemonade if desired. You'll notice a slightly gritty texture from the ginger and turmeric. If you're super finicky, strain the lemonade through a fine-mesh sieve into another pitcher, to eliminate this texture issue. Otherwise, just pop it in the fridge.
  6. Refrigerate. Once the lemonade is strained, pop it in the fridge for at least an hour to allow the flavors to meld. This step enhances the flavor profile, making the overall drink much better.
  7. Serve over ice. When ready to serve, add lots of ice to your glasses, and pour the lemonade over the ice. Garnish with extra slices of lemon, ginger or a sprinkle of turmeric for some visual appeal. It's all about the presentation, right?
  8. Enjoy responsibly! Sip, savor, and relish in the zingy, zesty, good-for-you deliciousness of your homemade Ginger Lemon Turmeric Lemonade. Cheers!

📝 Notes

  • Adjust the amount of honey or maple syrup to your taste. If you don't have fresh turmeric, leave it out; the drink is still delicious! Make sure to give the finished lemonade a good stir before each serving so the ingredients mix evenly. This recipe is easily doubled, tripled, or quadrupled for larger groups!
