Hey everyone! I'm Maya, and I'm obsessed with hummus. Seriously, I could eat it every day. But store-bought hummus can sometimes be, let's just say... a little bland. That's why I developed this recipe for Tangy Hummus – it's bright, zesty, and totally addictive. I was making this the other day and my cat started meowing incessantly next to the blender. She knew something delicious was brewing!

This isn't your average, run-of-the-mill hummus. Oh no, we're talking vibrant lemon juice that cuts through the richness of the tahini, a generous helping of garlic for some serious umami flavor, and warming cumin to bring it all together. I swear, the aroma alone will transport you to a sunny Mediterranean taverna. (Or maybe that's just my cat's meows that's transporting me..)

📖 Instructions

  1. Rinse and drain the chickpeas: Give your 1 1/2 cups (200g) of chickpeas a good rinse under cold water. Drain them completely – this helps to remove excess starch and create a smoother hummus.
  2. Add everything to your food processor: Throw your rinsed chickpeas, 1/4 cup (60ml) of tahini, 1/4 cup (60ml) of fresh lemon juice, 2 cloves of garlic (or more, if you're a garlic fiend!), 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 cup (60ml) of ice water into your food processor or high-powered blender. Ice water helps make it super smooth..
  3. Blend until smooth: Start blending, initially using short bursts, until everything is well combined and you’ve reached your desired consistency. Add more ice water, a tablespoon at a time, if needed, to achieve the perfect creamy texture. If it's too thick, add more water; if too thin, well...you'll just have to make more hummus!
  4. Taste and adjust: Once you have a smooth mixture, give it a taste test. Do you need more lemon for zing? More salt for punch? More cumin for warmth? Adjust to your liking! This is your hummus, make it your own!
  5. Serve and enjoy: Transfer your tangy hummus to a serving bowl. Drizzle with a little extra olive oil (optional, but highly recommended!) and garnish with paprika and a few extra chickpeas. Serve with pita bread, veggies, or whatever your heart desires! It pairs beautifully with warm pita bread, especially if the pita is still a little warm from the oven or pan..Mmm!

📝 Notes

  • Adjust the amount of ice water to reach your desired consistency.
  • For a smoother hummus, blend for a longer time.
  • Feel free to add other ingredients, such as roasted red peppers or jalapeños.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days. Don't keep it more than that, unless you love mold!
