This Paleo Fruit & Chutney Bowl is my go-to recipe for a quick, healthy, and incredibly flavorful meal or snack. I created it one afternoon when I was craving something sweet and satisfying but didn't want anything overly processed or sugary. The result? This vibrant bowl of goodness! It's unbelievably easy to make, packed with nutrients, and absolutely delicious. I'm telling you, this recipe is addictive!

I was inspired to make this recipe after a friend raved about a similar dish they had at a trendy health cafe. It was expensive and kinda small, but it was SO GOOD. So I challenged myself to replicate the flavors at home using only paleo-friendly ingredients. I had a little help from my mom’s old recipe books that contained lots of interesting chutney recipes. This, my friends, is the result of that mission. Let’s make some healthy and delicious memories together, shall we?

📖 Instructions

  1. First, let's get started on the chutney. Grab your small saucepan and place it over medium heat. Add 1 cup of chopped dates, 1/2 cup of chopped figs, and 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar. Stir everything together and bring it to a gentle simmer.
  2. While the fruit simmers, let's toast those nuts! In a dry skillet over medium heat, gently toast 1/2 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts for about 3-5 minutes, or until fragrant and lightly browned. Keep a close eye on them to prevent burning. Mmm, that nutty aroma!
  3. Once the fruit mixture has softened and begun to thicken, add the toasted nuts to the saucepan. Stir well to combine. You'll want to cook it for another 5-7 minutes, or until you reach your desired consistency. It should be thick and syrupy but still spreadable.
  4. Next, let's prep the fruit bowl. Wash and chop 2 cups of your favorite seasonal fruits. I love using a mix of mango, pineapple, and kiwi for a tropical twist! This is where you can really get creative and add your personal touch.
  5. Finally, assemble the fruit bowl. Place the chopped fruit into a serving bowl. Spoon the warm, delicious chutney generously over the top of the fruit. Give it a final stir and garnish with some fresh mint for an extra touch of freshness.
  6. Serve immediately and enjoy! It's incredibly satisfying. I’ve found this dish to be surprisingly filling, so don’t underestimate it!

📝 Notes

  • Adjust sweetness to taste. You may need to add more dates or figs if the chutney is not sweet enough. Make sure that you measure the ingredients accurately so that you won’t end up with too much or too little chutney.
  • Feel free to add other spices such as cinnamon or nutmeg for extra flavor. Or add some ginger! Make sure to adjust them accordingly so that the overall flavor won't be overpowered by the spices.
  • If you are sensitive to nuts, use sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds instead of pecans or walnuts. You may also substitute the fruits based on what's in season or what you have on hand!
