Hello, fellow food enthusiasts! Today, I'm sharing one of my absolute favorite summer salads: a vibrant, refreshing Watermelon & Grapefruit Salad with Orange Segments. It's the perfect blend of sweet and tart, and it's unbelievably easy to make. It's the kind of salad that's so good it makes you feel a little bit better about life, especially after a long day of dealing with difficult customers at work.

This salad has become a staple at my summer gatherings. It's always a hit with everyone, from my kids who love the sweetness of the watermelon to my friends who appreciate the zing of the citrus fruits. Last year, my friend Susan told me that she made this salad for a bbq and everyone loved it! I think this salad is perfect for summer potlucks and barbecues.

šŸ“– Instructions

  1. First things first, wash all your fruit! This might seem obvious, but trust me, it's crucial for a truly refreshing salad.
  2. Next, let's tackle the watermelon. Cut it in half, then into quarters, and finally into bite-sized cubes. About 1 inch cubes should be perfect. Don't be afraid to get creative with the shapes if you feel fancy!
  3. Now for the grapefruit. If you're using a juicer, get that going! If not, grab a spoon and start segmenting the grapefruit, carefully removing the flesh from the membranes. This takes a little patience, but itā€™s worth the effort to avoid bitter bits.
  4. The oranges are up next! Just like the grapefruit, carefully segment those oranges, removing the individual segments from their membranes.
  5. Once youā€™ve got all the citrus segments removed (you are a rockstar!), gently combine the watermelon cubes, grapefruit segments, and orange segments in a large bowl. Gently toss to mixā€”you don't want to smash the fruit!
  6. Now for a bit of magic... taste the mix. Is it sweet enough? Tart enough? Adjust accordinglyā€”maybe a touch more of one of the fruits or even a drizzle of honey or agave if youā€™re feeling adventurous!
  7. Finally, gently transfer your beautiful salad to a serving bowl. Serve it immediately for maximum freshness, or chill for a bit to make it extra refreshing!
  8. Optional: Before serving, sprinkle a tiny pinch of salt. It sounds weird, I know, but the salt helps to bring out the sweetness of the fruit...try it!

šŸ“ Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a sprig of mint or a pinch of salt before serving.
  • Adjust the amount of fruit to your preference. Some people like more watermelon; others prefer more grapefruit!
