This recipe is a journey to flavor town, population: YOU! I'm not going to lie; it takes a little time and effort, but the end result is a seriously satisfying ramen burger experience. I had to try it for my self after my friend, Sarah, told me her experience at this Japanese ramen restaurant in Los Angeles that served the most amazing burger. It was pretty tasty. But, I was not as happy as I was when I made this for myself and my family. You're going to love it.
A delicious ramen burger with crispy fried onions, ready to eat.
It’s not just about throwing ingredients together; it's about the textures and flavors playing together. The crispy onions add a delightful crunch, while the savory ramen patty offers a satisfying bite. The sweetness of the onions with the savory burger is heavenly. I'm getting hungry just typing this.

📖 Instructions

  1. First things first, let's tackle those onions. Thinly slice about 2 large yellow onions. Yeah, I know it sounds like a lot, but trust me on this, it's worth it. Remember what your mama said about onions making you cry? Yeah, well, mama didn't know Chuck Norris.
  2. Next, heat about 1/2 cup of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. You know the oil is hot enough when a pinch of onion sizzles immediately. Don't burn yourself, now.
  3. Add about half of your sliced onions to the skillet, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Stir occasionally with your spatula so everything fries evenly. This is where patience comes in, folks, low and slow isn't always the key.
  4. Cook until the onions are golden brown and perfectly crispy, about 10-15 minutes. It's all about that golden hue. Once they're done, remove them using tongs, place them on a plate lined with paper towels to soak up excess oil.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with the remaining onions. We're aiming for a mountain of crispy onion deliciousness.
  6. Now for the ramen. Cook the noodles according to package directions and then drain them incredibly well. Any excess water will make your burgers soggy, and that's just a tragedy.
  7. In a separate mixing bowl, lightly mash the cooked ramen with a fork. This helps to bind the burger together. Be careful not to pulverize the noodles, though; you want to retain some texture!
  8. Add seasonings to your ramen mixture. A little soy sauce, some sesame oil, and a pinch of black pepper will do the trick. You can get creative here and add your own spices!
  9. If you're using a burger press, shape your ramen mixture into patties. If not, just shape them by hand. Aim for about 1/4 inch thick patties.
  10. Heat a little more oil in your skillet over medium heat. Carefully place your ramen patties in the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until they're nicely browned and heated through.
  11. Now for assembly! Spread your favorite sauce on the bottom of your ramen burger buns. (Mayo, sriracha mayo are my go-tos). Top with a ramen patty, a generous helping of your crispy fried onions, and top with the other half of the bun. Don't forget to sprinkle those sesame seeds on there, because, well, why not?
  12. Behold your ramen burger with crispy fried onions! Serve immediately and enjoy the symphony of flavors and textures that's exploding in your mouth. Okay, that might be slightly dramatic, but it's pretty darn delicious. You're welcome.

📝 Notes

  • Make sure to drain the ramen noodles well; excess water can make the burger soggy. Don't be shy with the fried onions; they are the star of this show!
