I developed this recipe after a friend raved about a similar dish they'd had at a luau. I tweaked it a bit to make it easier for home cooks (and to suit my own personal preferences, of course!). The result? Pure heaven. Seriously, these sliders are addictive. I'm already planning on making a double batch for my next family gathering. You've got to try it!

📖 Instructions

  1. First, let's make the teriyaki marinade. In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup Hawaiian-style teriyaki sauce, 1/4 cup pineapple juice, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 teaspoon grated ginger, and 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. This is the step where I always get a little impatient—I just want to get to the good part already!
  2. Next, prepare the pork. Cut 1 lb boneless pork shoulder into 1-inch cubes. Place the pork in a large bowl and pour the cooled teriyaki marinade over it, ensuring all the pieces are evenly coated. Let the pork marinate for at least 30 minutes or, even better, for a few hours in the fridge to let those flavors really sink in. If you're short on time, it's ok; I usually do, too, and they're still absolutely delicious!
  3. Now, for the pineapple. Dice 1 cup fresh pineapple into small, bite-sized chunks. Set aside. Trust me on this – using fresh pineapple totally makes a difference compared to canned stuff. But if all you have is canned, go for it! (I won't tell anyone!)
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated pork and cook until nicely browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. I find it easiest to stir them occasionally to make sure they cook evenly.
  5. Once the pork is cooked, gently fold in the diced pineapple. Let it cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the pineapple is slightly softened and caramelized. Mmm, that sweet and savory aroma is heavenly!
  6. Prepare the slider buns. Lightly toast your favorite slider buns. I like to brush them with a little melted butter for an extra touch of richness.
  7. Assemble the sliders. Spoon the teriyaki pork and pineapple mixture onto the toasted slider buns. Garnish with sesame seeds, if desired. Some people like to add a little extra teriyaki sauce on top... that's a great idea! Do it!
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy! These Hawaiian Teriyaki Sliders are amazing served with a side of fresh slaw or some fries. This is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for your next BBQ or party! Just be warned, you might be asked for the recipe multiple times; it's the best recipe ever! (Or at least, my personal favorite…)

📝 Notes

  • For a smokier flavor, grill the pork instead of pan-frying it.
  • Adjust the amount of brown sugar to your liking.
  • If you don't have pineapple juice, you can substitute apple juice or water.
  • Serve immediately after assembly for best results!
