I was inspired to create this recipe after a particularly memorable summer picnic with friends. We all brought different contributions, but the most delightful dish was a simple fruit platter with this kind of cherry kabobs! Ever since, this has been my go-to recipe for summer gatherings. The best part? It’s so easy to customize – add your favorite fruits and watch the party unfold!

📖 Instructions

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry all your cherries. Remove stems and pits from each cherry using a cherry pitter. If you dont have a pitter, a small knife will work but requires a steady hand! (This is where I usually end up with a small cherry massacre).
  2. Prepare the fruits: If using additional fruits, wash, dry, and chop them into bite-sized pieces approximately the same size as the cherries. I typically use grapes and strawberries with my cherry kabobs. Yummy!
  3. Assemble the kabobs: Thread the cherries and any other chosen fruits onto the skewers, alternating colors and types for visual appeal. Aim for about 4-6 pieces of fruit per kabob, not too crammed!. I have a tendency to get overzealous, which isn't ideal!
  4. Optional: Glaze: (Optional step for an extra burst of flavor) If you want to add a glaze, prepare it beforehand. A simple honey-lemon glaze works beautifully. Brush the glaze lightly onto the kabobs after assembling.
  5. Chill (Optional): If not serving immediately, cover the kabobs and chill in the refrigerator for up to 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld. This isn't necessary, but I find that it adds to the overall enjoyment of the dish. Plus, cold fruit is awesome on a hot day.
  6. Serve: Once ready, serve the fruity cherry kabobs immediately. They’re delicious on their own or can be served with a dollop of whipped cream, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or alongside a simple yogurt dip. I’m partial to a bit of coconut whipped cream myself!

📝 Notes

  • For best results, use fresh, ripe cherries.
  • If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes before using to prevent burning.
  • Feel free to add other fruits like blueberries, raspberries, or pineapple chunks.
  • Adjust the amount of fruit based on your preference and the size of your skewers.
