I was inspired to create this recipe after a long hike with my friends last summer. We were all exhausted, and needed a healthy, refreshing pick-me-up. This smoothie is both revitalizing and satisfying. The combination of the sweet berries and the earthy spinach is surprisingly well-balanced. And you'd be surprised how little you taste the spinach!

📖 Instructions

  1. Gather your ingredients! Make sure your berries are washed and your spinach is fresh. You'll probably want to prep the spinach by giving it a quick rinse, unless you got it pre-washed at the market. I always double check to make sure there is no dirt hanging around.
  2. Add the spinach, berries, banana, and liquid of your choice to a blender. Remember to leave a little extra room, cause it will expand as you blend. I usually add a bit less liquid to start and gradually increase if it needs it.
  3. Blend on high speed until smooth and creamy. This part should only take about 30-60 seconds; more is not better. Stop periodically to scrape down the sides of the blender to ensure even blending and avoid motor burn-out (that happened to me once, oops!).
  4. If the smoothie is too thick, add a little more liquid (water, milk, or juice). If it's too thin, add a few more frozen berries or some ice cubes. Adjust to your ideal consistency—this is your creation, make it how you like it!
  5. Once you have the perfect consistency, taste and adjust the sweetness as needed. Add a drizzle of honey or maple syrup to your liking. Once you taste it you'll get the hang of it.
  6. Pour into your favorite glass and enjoy immediately! Garnish with some extra berries if you're feeling fancy. Take a pic for Instagram and let me know what you think!

📝 Notes

  • For a thicker smoothie, use more frozen ingredients. For a thinner smoothie, use more liquid.
  • Feel free to experiment with different types of berries and liquids!
